One of the greatest things to happen to the internet the past few years has been Tumblr.
And the greatest thing to happen to Tumblr (and therefore, the internet) is Ryan Gosling.
But what is a Tumblr, you ask? Well, it’s pretty straightforward. Essentially, it’s a blog platform, but one that is hyper-shareable and much of its content is created by sharing (called “reblogging”) of images, songs, or small batches of text. Tumblr makes it really easy to cull a feed (your “dashboard”) of other blogs and see what’s buzzing online. The interface is streamlined, user-friendly, and so highly customizable that some folks (see Aziz Ansari, Julie Klausner, Kasbah Moderne, etc) are even using it to host their official websites. Neat!
So, it feels only right to start off the “Best Tumblrs of 2011” series with those inspired by none other than the man, the myth, the dapperly-dressed, savviest MFer since a dude named Rico: Ryan Gosling. It should come as a surprise to no one that this terribly photogenic collection of beard and man is a popular topic on the internet—and Tumblr has taken to him like peas and carrots. So let us break it down for you: The Top Five Ryan Gosling Tumblrs, 2011 Edition, based on awesome hilarity:
5.) Typographer Ryan Gosling
A lot of us HIPsters are writers, so we appreciate some good typography jokes attached to a good lookin’ fella.
4.) Ryan Gosling Disneyland Cats
While chatting with Conan O’Brien, Ryan explained his theory that Disneyland is harboring a small army of cats. Instantly, absurdity bore a meme.
3.) Fuck Yeah, Ryan Gosling
The Tumblr that started it all. The images feature text so corny, so cheesy and so awkward that MTV produced two separate videos of Ryan reading some of the choicest entries. Hilarity ensued.
2.) Ryan Gosling vs. Puppy
Simple. Straightforward. Eerily similar images of Ryan Gosling juxtaposed with dogs. Tumblr doing what Tumblr does best on the most basic level.
1.) Feminist Ryan Gosling
Everyone heard about Ryan’s feminist rant about a certain part of his film, Blue Valentine, and how it garnered the film an initial NC-17 rating. So when Knotty Yarn blogger Danielle Henderson created a riff on the original featuring quotes from various feminist theories, it was a hit. Further proving the worldwide theory that Ryan Gosling pairs well with everything. Like Ovaltine.
Honorable Mentions include:
A.) Ryan Fucking Gosling
B.) Hell Yeah Ryan Gosling
(If you just want straight Gosling-oogling, these two are the place to be. Super gif-heavy. Worth it.)
Did we miss a particular Gosling blog? Do you think any of this is SO HIP or SO GENIUS? Let us know in the comments! We’re listening.
